Ectoplasm, Mist & Orb Pictures from Philadelphia

Welcome. If you're new here, be sure to subscribe to Ghost Hunting Secrets for free ghost hunting tips, videos, haunted locations, and other goodies. Thanks for visiting!

Carole D. 's daughter has captured some interesting photos with mist, orbs and ectoplasm in them (purely by accident—see story below).  Carole writes:

The photos were taken in a courtyard of a Philadelphia church.  The temperature was in the high 50's [no bad weather conditions], and the photographer does not smoke.  The purpose of the photos was to record before-and-after pictures of a landscaping project.  The photos were taken with a 35mm camera and the first photos taken (white orb)—including photos taken outside the courtyard—did not have the mist.  It is not possible that the film was over-exposed, since the mist would be red and yellow if it was over-exposed.

Carole believes that the courtyard might have been a cemetery at one time, and was dug-up to make room for an addition.

Lots of Philly's old churches had adjacent burial plots [and many buildings/additions were built on top of these graveyards.]  Evidently, the spirits were not happy with the intrusion after decades of neglect.

Beginning to take photos — Orb is present.  No mist or ectoplasm yet.

Side view — Glowing orb to the right of the bush. The close-up version is better than what I can display here (due to online image size restrictions).

Mist begins appearing in the photos.  Also two red dots that look like orbs on the left-hand side.

This is my favorite photo.  Ectoplasm in the shape of a hooded figure?

Those are awesome photos.  In those last few, it looks like someone is bending over doing garden work.  Have you thought to check and see if anyone who worked on the grounds passed recently?  Also stop by my blog if you have a few minutes.  I have a photo on there of a "ghost lady" you might be interested in.

Hi Patty. Glad you enjoyed them. You're right—it does look like someone is bending over – possibly doing work in the garden. I suppose it's possible that a grounds keeper died recently, although Carole seems to think there was a graveyard attached to the church that may have been dug-up. I left a comment for you on your blog. Your grandson Cody is quite perceptive!

Thought the last few photos looked great.  Though no one can tell truly if a photo is a true "paranormal" photo unless of course they are the photographer, but I will say even if they are fake (which I highly doubt) they are Very Good!  Great photos & great site.  We'll be back soon.

Thank You,

Interesting pics but before I'd confirm mist or ectoplasm I'd check dates, temps, smokers in the vicinity. I'd rather err on the side of caution or doubt. Either way they ARE intriguing and worth a closer look.

Hi Lisa.  Thanks for the comment.  It is *always* a good idea to err on the side of caution/doubt.  However, if you read the post above, Carole wrote that there was no smoking, and temps. were in the high 50's.

I always enjoy looking at unusual photos.  I'll be posting some additional photos from subscribers who want their pictures featured. :-)

I never believed the pictures posted of 'smokey' ghosts were real until I took one myself!

I was looking at my camera once getting ready to take a picture of my uncle and it ended up going off, and as it did it completely froze with the frame out! I had to take out the battery to get it working correctly and when I did I seen a picture full of smoke surrounding my uncle very close to the camera..

o_O I have also seen lots of orbs that look just like them surrounding my Uncle also. I agree that your pictures are great and I cant wait to do some real investigating of my own some day!
