A couple of weeks ago, I traveled to The Bentonville Battlefield in Four Oaks, NC.
Bentonville is a national historic landmark and the site of the last major Confederate offensive of the U.S. Civil War. Eighty-thousand soldiers fought on 6,000 acres of land, and more than 4,000 men were killed, wounded, or missing during the 3-day battle. The battlefield is reportedly haunted and people have heard cannon fire, rifles, shouts, and seen phantom fires and apparitions. The smell of gun smoke, and decaying human flesh has also been reported.

Looking for haunted locations to explore? Well, depending on where you live, you may find plenty of paranormal activity at your local library.
In an earlier post, I included a list of haunted libraries that Encyclopedia Britannica had compiled. Encyclopedia Britannica has now published four additional lists of haunted libraries for people who live in the U.S., Canada, and international countries.

I received an interesting email from one of my subscribers. Geoffrey writes:
Three years ago my nephew & I witnessed dozens of orbs in Joshua Tree, CA. They were up to 5 feet from us, circled us and we saw them come out of the ground and rocks. At times they were flying into each other. When we tried to capture them on film, the second we would lift the camera, they would fade out. I spoke with 2 physicists about this and they both said that from my description of events, that they defied natural physics; they couldn't be electric plasma.

Geoffrey submitted an interesting question about EVP's. He writes…
"How come when I see EVP tapings on TV they are scratchy, [and] muffled sounding. I got 2 in a cabin in Lucerne Valley. Both were clear as a bell, loud and obscene. Calling me a $@#%! freak, then made growling sounds. After the first one, I slept on my girlfriend's living room floor for a week. Again, why would these ones record so clear—they sounded as if this guy was directly behind me."

Planning to ghost hunt this weekend? Here are 10 things to take with you…
10 Things to Take With You on a Ghost Hunt
1. Patience. Ghost hunting is a lot like fishing – you need patience because you won't always see results immediately. On some investigations, you'll find paranormal activity. On others, you won't. Sometimes what you thought was paranormal can be explained by natural causes. Be patient and understand that you may need to visit a haunted location several times before you experience anything unusual.

Alex wants to know whether everyone can see ghosts. He writes: "Do you believe that all people can see ghosts?"
In my opinion, most people can sense paranormal activity—on some level. Whether it's seeing, feeling, or hearing – most people are sensitive to some degree. (Of course, some people are more sensitive than others.) In fact, even skeptics have seen ghosts. Hard-core skeptics who don't believe in anything "paranormal" often change their minds after a firsthand experience with a ghost.

Can the dead talk?
Many people believe that ghosts can communicate with us, while others are skeptical of such claims. A common tool used by paranormal investigators is EVP – also known electronic voice phenomena.

I've received a number of questions about intelligent ghost hauntings, so let's tackle some of these questions.
What is an Intelligent Haunting?
An intelligent haunting is the rarest type of haunting. (Residual hauntings are far more common.) In this type of haunting, you are dealing with an "intelligent" presence that can communicate with you, and interact with you in a seemingly "intelligent" way. This ghost is best (and most simply) described as the personality of a person who once lived and who has stayed behind in our world.

One of my subscribers, Brian, is dealing with a ghost in a farmhouse that he and his wife recently bought. Brian writes:
I've been seeing a male ghost (dressed in old fashioned clothes) coming down the stairs repeatedly. He is in a hurry and does not seem to notice me or my wife. We just purchased an older farmhouse (built in 1932) and although the ghost seems harmless, I'm wondering if I should do something to make him leave. Is he harmless? Could we try to make him leave?

Many of my subscribers have questions about orbs. Some people question whether orbs are solid evidence of paranormal activity. Other subscribers want to know why orbs appear in many of their photographs. Meanwhile, other subscribers want to know why certain orbs have different colors (red, blue), and if there is a meaning to these colors.
